Péter Magyar spoke on the phone with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Wednesday and invited the Israeli leader to Budapest, the Israeli Foreign Ministry reported.
This was Netanyahu’s first conversation with the chairman of the Tisza Party, which won the parliamentary election. Based on the Foreign Ministry’s statement, they held a “warm” introductory conversation, during which Péter Magyar stated that
he wishes to maintain the close relationship between Hungary and Israel, and invited Benjamin Netanyahu to participate in the commemoration of the 70th anniversary of the 1956 Hungarian Revolution in Budapest.
According to the statement, Netanyahu welcomed his remarks, accepted the invitation, and invited Péter Magyar to a meeting in Jerusalem, where members of the two governments will hold discussions.
The Israeli prime minister also expressed his conviction that the warm relations established with outgoing Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán will continue during Péter Magyar’s term as prime minister.
The two leaders also agreed to a meeting between their foreign ministers in the near future, at which they will discuss “further strengthening the close ties between Israel and Hungary.”
