Outgoing deputy prime minister Zsolt Semjén
Several KDNP politicians who previously held seats in parliament will not be taking their seats in the new National Assembly. János Latorcai, the outgoing vice president of the National Assembly; Zsolt Semjén, the outgoing deputy prime minister; and Miklós Soltész, the state secretary, will not be assuming their mandates, Index has learned.
János Latorcai stated that the decision was driven by a desire to bring in younger members, and that they are stepping aside to make room for other politicians. It is not yet known exactly who from the Fidesz–KDNP national list will enter parliament.
The Christian Democrats’ parliamentary group will be reduced to eight members, and Bence Rétvári will take over its leadership, Index has learned.
Outgoing deputy prime minister Zsolt Semjén submitted his resignation from his party leadership position, but the KDNP executive committee did not accept it. He believes a generational shift and personal and political renewal are necessary, Magyar Nemzet reported.
