Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó
“We are providing consular protection to the Hungarian man recently arrested in Ukraine who tried to help five people flee to Hungary”, Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó wrote on Facebook on Sunday.
The Minister emphasized in his post that, as the fourth anniversary approaches, everyone is fed up with the Russia–Ukraine war.
“The Ukrainian people do not want to die, but every day we see footage of violent conscription campaigns, often involving open manhunts on the streets of Ukrainian cities.
Many Ukrainian men – grandfathers, fathers, brothers, sons, grandsons – are desperately trying to flee Ukraine to avoid conscription, and with it, deployment to the front and a probable death.
However, the Ukrainian border guards are doing everything in their power and using all means at their disposal to capture the fugitives,” he emphasized.
The Ukrainian authorities recently arrested a Hungarian man who was trying to help five Ukrainian men flee to Hungary. Our Consulate General in Berehove (Beregszász) immediately provided him with consular protection and we are assisting him during the police proceedings,”
he continued.
“This case clearly shows that the war must be ended as soon as possible and the violent conscription must be stopped immediately!” the minister concluded.
