Gastronomic competitions, including the Szamos dessert competition and the Agrotourism food competition, were announced on Monday in the Food of Hungary program.
Hungary is a dessert superpower, emphasized Bence Rétvári, Parliamentary State Secretary of the Ministry of the Interior, at a press conference in Budapest on Monday presenting the competitions.
He added that based on the rankings, Hungary is a country with a rich tradition and heritage in the fields of gastronomy, confectionery, and desserts.
The state secretary pointed out that competitions like these bring forth new confections that will become known around the world in ten, twenty, or fifty years.
He emphasized that this competition is also important because new, yet traditional Hungarian sweets and dishes are being created from Hungarian ingredients, following Hungarian traditions, but in line with modern expectations and current trends.
The competitions are announced by the Association of Hungarian Chefs (Séfklub), the Szolnok Vocational Training Center, the Hungarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Budapest Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and the State Secretariat for National Policy of the Prime Minister’s Office.
The theme of the Szamos Mátyás Plate Dessert Competition is the fairy-tale world of desserts, and entries are being accepted until February 28.
Entrants must use Naszálytej Tarka or Magic Milk cream, Szatmári Malom flour and millet, as well as a selected pálinka (Hungarian fruit brandy) or distillate and a domestic organic product, explained István Asztalos, president of the Hungarian Association of Chefs.
Another one, the Hungary’s Drink cocktail competition is being held for the second time.
Entries for the commercial distilleries’ pálinka competition can be submitted until February 28 with pure and aged fruit pálinkas. The deadline for the private distillers’ pálinka competition is also February 28. The competition is open exclusively to private distillers who can enter with spirits made from their own fruit, using their own equipment, on their own property.
