Pope Leo XIV is also supporting the public media’s It’s good to be good! campaign as the head of the Catholic Church has donated one of his papal hats. The organizers of the fundraiser hope that it will be purchased for a large sum. The money will go to the Kegyes Foundation, and the papal hat (pileolus) will be delivered by the fundraising team to the Catholic children’s home in Rát, Rativci, Ukraine. The fundraising campaign will conclude on Sunday with a full day of programming. So far, over 200 million forints (517,583 euros) have been raised in the campaign.
The money raised by the campaign will go to the KEGYES Foundation, helping sick, orphaned, and homeless children living in war-torn Transcarpathia (Ukraine). The money will be used to set up a shelter for vulnerable mothers.
By late Sunday evening, over 434 million forints (1.1 million euros) had been raised in the public media’s charity campaign called It’s good to be good!, which supports the work of KEGYES, the Charity Foundation for Helping “Forgotten” Children in Transcarpathia.

This year, artists, athletes, and celebrities have once again made numerous donations. These include Herend porcelain dedicated by Tibor Kapu and Bertalan Farkas, Hungarian astronauts, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán’s “Master Plan” sweater, signed by the PM himself and featuring a flower drawn by him. and Arnold Schwarzenegger’s signed jacket. Bids can be placed on these items until 10 p.m.
The Hungarian Bread Program has also joined the fundraising campaign. Farmers have donated two tons of flour and one million forints to the KEGYES Foundation.
To conclude the charity campaign, the public media prepared a full day of programming. During the live broadcast, it was revealed that Pope Leo XIV had also joined the noble cause and he donated one of his papal hats.
Anita Altorjai, CEO of Duna Médiaszolgáltató Nonprofit Zrt., said on the broadcast that this year marks the 15th time the fundraising campaign has been launched. It is important for public media to provide news and reports and to entertain, but it is equally important to stand up for social issues and help those in need.
József Sipos, Reformed pastor and founder of the KEGYES Foundation, emphasized that since the outbreak of the war in Ukraine, their activities have taken on even greater responsibility.
Dániel Papp, CEO of the Media Support and Asset Management Fund (MTVA), said: “Given the dramatic situation of those living in Transcarpathia, it was obvious to choose the KEGYES Foundation, which supports orphans and children who have lost their homes in Transcarpathia, as the beneficiary.
We felt that the country’s, “and even the world’s, attention should be drawn to this sad situation,”
said the CEO.
Dániel Papp added that the result also shows that Hungarians have once again joined forces for an organization beyond the border.
Viewers’ donations are still welcome by the public media staff. You can help by calling the 1358 donation line. Each call and SMS means a donation of 500 forints (1,29 euros).
