Today, on August 23, the Open Water Tournament (OWT) comes to the stunning Kotró Lake in Gyékényes, where swimmers of all levels are competing in an open water race. Swimmers from amateurs trying open water for the first time to seasoned professionals are welcome in this unique event set in a truly picturesque environment.
In July, hundreds took part in the cheerful Danube crossing, where they had the chance to explore parts of the country while swimming in pleasant conditions, aided by the river’s current. The next stop of the OWT also promises a truly special experience for swimmers, Turizmus.com reports.
The Kotró Lake in Gyékényes (southwestern Hungary) is famous for its crystal-clear water: visibility can reach depths of up to 20 meters.
It is worth glancing down occasionally, as sunken and cleaned shipwrecks placed by divers await discovery below.

In the middle of the picturesque lake stands a small island, which participants will swim around. Amateur swimmers complete the three kilometer course once, while more dedicated participants do it three times. The clean, still water offers a great opportunity for those who are just getting into open water swimming.
Registration is available on the OWT website.
