At the 19th Palóc Easter at Fülek Castle (Fiľakovo Castle) event, programs will begin on the morning of Easter Monday, April 6; where visitors can try their hand at egg painting, make Easter figurines, and enjoy a flea market and folk art performances, the Fülek Municipal Cultural Center informed MTI on Monday.
A folk art performance awaits visitors on the outdoor stage, featuring the Szabad Szombat Dance Ensemble from Ózd (northeastern Hungary), the Ipeľ Folk Dance Ensemble from Losonc (Lučenec), and the BashElán band from Budapest, the press release stated.
BashElán, composed of talented young musicians from the Hungarian folk music scene, blends Hungarian folk music with Balkan rhythms and Transylvanian Gypsy music. Local ensembles will be represented by the Foncsik Vocal Ensemble, the Jánosik Children’s Folk Dance Ensemble, and the Szederinke Children’s Folk Dance Ensemble.
Those interested can try out various egg-decorating techniques, make Easter figures out of rushes, and learn other craft techniques. Children can enjoy a hand-cranked carousel, an Easter egg hunt, pony rides, and archery.

Palóc people: a distinct subgroup (or ethnographic group) of ethnic Hungarians living mainly in northern Hungary (especially in Nógrád, Heves, and parts of Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén counties) and southern Slovakia. As part of the event, participants can also visit the Fülek Castle Museum’s permanent and temporary exhibitions; admission is valid for both the castle and the Easter program.
The main organizer of the event is the Municipal Cultural Center, in partnership with the Fülek Castle Museum, Public Services, and the Fülek Volunteer Fire Department.
They also announced that in case of inclement weather, the stage performances will be held at the Fülek Municipal Cultural Center (Mestské kultúrne stredisko Fiľakovo).
