Eger, Hungary
Based on booking data from Szallas.hu, Eger (northern Hungary), Gyula (southeastern border of Hungary, close to Romania), and Nyíregyháza (northeastern Hungary) are the most popular destinations among Hungarian travelers during the four-day Easter long weekend.
Based on a statement sent to MTI by the accommodation booking site on Tuesday, the top list also includes, in order, Pécs, Hajdúszoboszló, Miskolc, Budapest, Szeged, Siófok, and Hévíz.
By region, Northern Hungary is the most sought-after (25 percent), significantly ahead of Lake Balaton (13.3 percent) and the Southern Great Plain region (12.6 percent).

Lili Kelemen, press spokesperson for Szallas.hu, stated in the press release that the data shows that trips for two people are the most common during the Easter period, accounting for nearly half of all bookings.
In terms of length of stay, two-night (40 percent) and three-night (37 percent) stays are the most common, while the proportion of guests staying for one night is 19 percent, she noted.

Among accommodation types, apartments lead the rankings with 30 percent of bookings, followed by hotels at 28 percent. Guesthouses account for one in four bookings, while bed-and-breakfasts make up 14 percent and other accommodations 3 percent, according to the analysis. Among amenities, wellness plays a prominent role: in one out of every three bookings, those seeking relaxation opted for wellness accommodations. Regarding meals, nearly one-third of bookings included meal service, with breakfast being the most popular option.
The total cost of the stay—that is, the total amount paid for the entire stay—does not exceed 70,000 forints (180 euros; 1 euro = 388 forints) in nearly half of all bookings, the spokesperson said. Thirty-eight percent of bookings fall within the 70,000–170,000 forint range, while one in ten bookings has a total cost between 170,000 and 270,000 forint, and amounts higher than that account for 6 percent of bookings.

Based on feedback from Szallas.hu’s partners, accommodation providers are preparing a rich selection of holiday activities again this year: the most popular include egg hunts, craft workshops, and there will be a petting zoo with bunnies and a themed sauna ceremony. Easter-themed menus are offered, and in some places, guests can even expect unique treats such as homemade holiday cakes, local pálinka tastings, or discounted tickets to nearby major events, such as the Hollókő Easter Festival.
Traditional Hungarian Easter events stand out among the towns’ festive offerings this year as well: while in the World Heritage town of Hollókő and at the Matyó Easter in Mezőkövesd, authentic folk costumes, traditional water-sprinkling customs, and the craft fair create an authentic atmosphere, on the shores of Lake Balaton, the Siófok Rabbit Festival attracts families.
