The Hungarian government is taking a tougher stance toward Kyiv. Foreign Affairs and Trade Minister Péter Szijjártó reinforced the decision during an appearance in Székesfehérvár (central Hungary), citing the precarious situation in Europe.
While EU-wide gas storage facilities are on average only 9 percent full, the figure in Hungary stands at 24 percent; however, precautions must be taken in light of a looming global energy crisis.
As long as Ukraine does not supply oil, it will not receive gas from Hungary.

Péter Szijjártó emphasized that Hungary’s infrastructure is under attack. The TurkStream pipeline, the most important route for Hungarian gas, has been the target of dozens of drone attacks in recent days, the minister explained. The disruption of oil supplies is forcing the country to act immediately, he added.
We live in a world order of war,” said Péter Szijjártó. To ensure the operation of domestic industry and the supply of households, he said, the replenishment of storage facilities could not be delayed.
In addition to the gas cutoff, the head of government announced that as long as Ukraine does not resume operations of the Druzhba pipeline, Hungary will block any financial support for Kyiv from Brussels.
