On Tuesday, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán posted on his Facebook page the message, “We will not give in to Zelenskyy’s blackmail,” to which he attached a letter addressed to European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, starting with: “I am writing to you concerning the oil transfer via the Druzhba pipeline to Hungary, that is currently blocked by Ukraine.”
According to Viktor Orbán, “as recently released satellite images have proven, there are no technical or operational obstacles to the pipeline becoming operational again with immediate effect.”
“Ukraine’s reluctance to restart the Druzhba pipeline is purely political, aimed at interfering in the Hungarian election campaign currently underway,” the prime minister said.
Viktor Orbán recalled that “last week, together with Slovakia, we tried to find a solution through diplomatic channels. Among other things, we proposed a fact-finding mission consisting of Hungarian and Slovak experts, whose task would have been to assess the condition of the Ukrainian gas pipeline.”

He also wrote: “Despite Ukraine’s violation of its legal obligations towards the European Union, we have no reason to believe that legal remedies under international and EU law would bring tangible results in the short term in restoring our energy supply.”
“I therefore call on the European Commission to support Hungary in neutralizing Ukraine’s energy weapon.
I expect the European Commission to increase political pressure on Ukraine so that it does not undermine the energy security of Hungary and Slovakia. I also expect the European Commission to enforce the provisions of the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement,”
the Prime Minister said.
Viktor Orbán stated: “We cannot accept foreign interference in our democratic processes, and we will repel any such attempts.”
“In this spirit, I would like to inform you that until Ukraine returns to normality, I am unable to support any decision in the European Union that is favorable to Ukraine,” the prime minister concluded.
