Hungary’s spa season is kicking off early this year. While the popular Galerius Bath in Siófok celebrates a grand reopening after years of closure, the tranquil Borgáta Thermal Bath near Sárvár will be welcoming visitors with an unusually early start to the season.
Good news for anyone seeking relaxation and wellness. The Borgáta Thermal Bath, located just 17 kilometers from the town of Sárvár (Vas County, western Hungary), opens this year on Wednesday, April 1—marking a much earlier start to the bathing season than last year, reports termalonline.hu.
Welcoming guests since 1968, Borgáta is known for its family-friendly atmosphere. Visitors can enjoy a classic swimming pool, a children’s paddling pool, two thermal seating pools, and an adventure pool. Its mineral-rich waters, high in calcium and magnesium, are a hidden gem for guests with rheumatic or musculoskeletal issues. Visitors can enjoy Borgáta Thermal Bath until the end of the season on September 30.
Meanwhile, the reopening of Galerius Bath in Siófok has been eagerly awaited.
Closed since 2021 due to major technical issues—a serious blow to tourism on the southern shore of Lake Balaton—the bath has now undergone a full renovation worth 1.8 billion forints (4.6 million euros).
The old yellow-red façade has been replaced with a sleek modern design and a new sign. The sauna area has been completely modernized, and a brand-new slide adds fun for younger visitors. Galerius once again offers a thermal pool, though a small bureaucratic quirk means the water – transported from the Veronika Spring in nearby Nagyberény by tanker rather than a pipeline – is officially “thermal” rather than “medicinal.” This, however, does not affect its soothing benefits for bathers.
Galerius Bath is also joining the early-season excitement, opening its doors on April 1 at 9 a.m., welcoming visitors eager to experience its newly renovated facilities.
With Galerius Bath back in operation, Lake Balaton regains a key year-round attraction, while Borgáta welcomes the first outdoor bathers of spring, offering locals and tourists alike the perfect opportunity to enjoy leisure time.
