On February 25, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced that Ukrainian recruitment centers (TCK) had forcibly mobilized the dual Hungarian-Ukrainian citizen, who later surrendered to Russian troops on the Krasnoarmiysk front.
Albert Roman, a soldier of the 14th Ukrainian Brigade who has dual citizenship, surrendered to units of the “Center” army group, the Russian daily Izvestia reported.
According to his statement, when he crossed the border, he was immediately released on the Hungarian side, but on the Ukrainian side, when his data was checked, the system gave him a “red flag,” thus he was not allowed to continue. Roman had been living in Hungary since 2020. He was detained at the Ukrainian border and taken to the Uzhhorod Joint Territorial Center for Recruitment and Social Support. There, he underwent a medical examination and was deemed fit for service despite his previous illnesses and injuries, including meningitis, bone fractures, and multiple concussions.

The examination lasted only half an hour, involved 10-11 doctors, and seemed “more like a comedy.” After that, he was not released from the recruitment center but was sent for training. He was later assigned to the Chervona Kalyna Brigade.
He believes this was a deliberate decision, as “less than one percent” of this unit returns alive.
On February 24, Russian security services also reported that foreign mercenaries fighting on the Ukrainian side were offering the coordinates of Ukrainian positions in exchange for money, as well as requesting assistance in returning home, legal support, and contact with consulates.
99% of men are forcibly mobilized into the infantry of the Ukrainian army. They don’t go there voluntarily, says the head of the recruitment department of the 5th Assault Brigade, Tarasenko.
