The Budapest-based company, Wizz Air is celebrating a significant milestone: since it began operations in 2004, it has carried 500 million passengers.
Reaching 500 million passengers is much more than a symbolic milestone. The airline has now carried more people than the entire population of the European Union, which confirms Wizz Air’s impact on the accessibility of air travel, based on the company’s statement.

“We have grown ahead of the market average, expanded our network, strengthened our bases, achieved record traffic levels, and made significant investments.”
While many of the airlines founded in the early 2000s have since disappeared, Wizz Air has become one of Europe’s leading discount airlines,”
said József Váradi, CEO of Wizz Air.
The airline carried its first 100 million passengers in 11 years, then doubled that number in just four years, and in only three years – including the COVID-19 pandemic period – increased it from 200 million to 300 million.
Since then, it has carried an additional 200 million passengers in the last three years alone, reaching 500 million passengers in just under 22 years since its launch.
