For the first time, it was openly stated at the European Union Foreign Affairs Council meeting that the community is not ready for peace, meaning that the EU is choosing war over peace, said Péter Szijjártó, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, in Brussels.
The minister emphasized at a press conference held during a break in the European Union Foreign Affairs Council meeting that war fanaticism has completely taken over Brussels, and that extremely harsh things happened at the current meeting.
He emphasized that it had been openly admitted that a significant number of member states wanted war and rejected peace. “Several people said that the EU was not ready for peace (…) This makes the situation even clearer than before. The President of the United States is making enormous efforts to achieve peace, and the biggest obstacle, the biggest barrier, the biggest underminer of these efforts is Brussels itself, the European Union itself,” he said.
The decision has therefore been made in Brussels: the European Union chooses war over peace (…) This has been stated openly for the first time today,”
he added.
He also complained that while there is talk of transatlantic unity, several participants described the United States as a challenge to the European Union, which, like other geopolitical actors, seeks to divide the community.
“I think the European Union is deluding itself when it thinks that it still plays such a role in world politics that the United States has to relate to us in any way,” he said.
Péter Szijjártó also mentioned that Ukraine had made further financial demands on top of the €1.5 trillion that Brussels already considers a done deal.
In his words, “hundreds of millions and billions of euros were flying around” because they want the European Investment Bank’s resources to be reallocated to Kyiv for arms purchases instead of developing the continent’s economy, and they want even more money to be put into the fund supporting Ukraine’s energy system.
He also condemned Brussels’ intention to relocate the EU’s military training mission to Ukraine, saying that this would cross a red line that could easily lead to direct military confrontation with Russia, which could result in the outbreak of World War III. He therefore stated that the Hungarian government would not support this initiative either.
He also mentioned that his Ukrainian counterpart had also registered for the meeting and congratulated the EU on adopting a regulation that would make it impossible to import Russian oil and natural gas, and demanded that Russian energy companies be targeted in the next package of sanctions, which is scheduled to be voted on by February 24.
He believed that the latter step would effectively cut off Hungary from cheap Russian energy, that is why the government strongly opposes it.
“It is not enough that today they are talking about the €1.5 trillion to be given to the Ukrainian welfare plan as a fait accompli, and that it is taken for granted here in Brussels that we should give €800 billion to the Ukrainians to run their state and €700 billion to their army, (…) but today the Brussels-Kyiv tandem has come forward with further financial demands on top of this,” he said.
“Thus today, with the support of Brussels, the Ukrainians have come forward with further financial demands on top of the €1.5 trillion Ukrainian welfare plan. Hundreds of millions and billions of euros were flying around,” he added.
Péter Szijjártó said that first of all, they want the European Investment Bank’s resources to be reallocated to Kyiv for the purchase of weapons, instead of being used for the development of the European economy, railway and road construction, and improving people’s lives.
In addition, they want to see more money put into the fund supporting the Ukrainian energy system, he continued.
“Thus, on top of the €1.5 trillion compensation plan, they came up with new financial demands, throwing around hundreds of millions and billions of euros (…) and they want us to spend the European Investment Bank’s resources on arming Ukraine and give even more money to the Ukrainian energy support fund,” he emphasized.
However, the minister made it clear that the Hungarian government would not contribute to this under any circumstances. “As long as they see us, they cannot send a single penny of Hungarian people’s money to Ukraine for these crazy ideas, be it the Ukrainian welfare plan, the 1,500 billion euros, or the new financial demands announced today,” he emphasized.
Forget about the Hungarian people’s money! As long as we are in power, do not count on it!”
he said.
In this regard, he believed that it was obviously no coincidence that Ukraine had openly joined the Hungarian election campaign on the side of the Tisza Party (largest opposition-editor’s note), as the Tisza Party would say yes to all of this, to Kyiv’s financial and military support, and to dragging our country into the war.
