The company operating the TurkStream pipeline is moving from the Netherlands to Hungary. This means that the operation of the natural gas pipeline “will continue to be ensured despite all legal and financial attacks,” said Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó, on Tuesday in Moscow.
At a meeting of the Hungarian-Russian intergovernmental commission on economic cooperation, the Minister stated that the parties base their strategy for cooperation between the two countries on common sense, and that their decisions are determined by national interests. He pointed out that Hungary’s secure energy supply cannot function without Russia today, and that this is not a political or ideological issue, but a physical one. He also noted that without this energy cooperation, it would not be possible to maintain the results of the utility price cuts, and energy prices could triple.
“The Prime Minister has concluded the necessary agreements in Washington and here in Moscow to ensure that our energy cooperation can continue uninterrupted. At the same time, we must fight with Brussels, and unfortunately, Kyiv to ensure the long-term security of our energy supply,” he warned.
“Brussels is constantly attacking our energy cooperation legally, while Kyiv is physically attacking the oil pipeline,” he continued.
Now, in the last few days and weeks, we have had to avert another threat. As a result, we have decided to relocate the company operating the TurkStream gas pipeline from the Netherlands to Hungary,” he announced.
“Thanks to the agreement concluded with the United States, the operating conditions will be secured, and payment transactions related to the operation of the TurkStream pipeline will not be subject to sanctions. Thus, with the relocation of the operating company from the Netherlands to Hungary, the TurkStream pipeline will be able to operate without disruption in the coming period, despite all legal and financial attacks,” he confirmed.
We decided to relocate the company operating the TurkStream pipeline from the Netherlands to Hungary so it can continue operating smoothly despite the ongoing legal and financial attacks. This way, thanks to our recent agreement with the US, the conditions for continued operation…

After the meeting, Péter Szijjártó explained that Hungary has been living in the shadow of the war in Ukraine for four years and that “our country is paying a high price for an armed conflict that has nothing to do with it, therefore it is interested in peace as soon as possible.”
“We are interested in restoring peace to Central Europe, and that is why we have been subjected to relentless attacks for four years because of our position. I would like to make it clear that we greatly appreciate Donald Trump’s peace efforts, we support the Russian-American negotiations, and we call on all those who have undermined the peace negotiations so far to refrain from doing so in the future,” he said.
He went on to say that it has now become clear that there is no solution to this war on the battlefield, only a diplomatic settlement is conceivable, for which channels of dialogue must be kept open. “And that is why we Hungarians have always maintained cooperation and dialogue with Russia based on mutual respect,” he recalled.
