As of January 1st, based on the latest decree issued by the Hungarian Gazette: police officers, financial guards, and soldiers will receive a six month allowance next year.
In some cases, repayment obligations must be taken into account.
According to a government decree published in the Hungarian Gazette on Tuesday evening, the allowance is payable to soldiers, police officers, border guards, financial guards, professional staff of civil national security services, and officer candidates of all these organizations who are in professional service or in pre-retirement status on December 31, 2025. Those who are already serving their notice period or exemption period on the last day of the year are not eligible.
The service allowance is normally equal to six months’ salary.
It is important to note that anyone who has not completed three years of continuous professional service by the end of this year and whose employment status ends before the end of the three years must repay the full amount. Those who leave too early due to immediate resignation or physical incapacity are required to repay the amount on a pro-rata basis, but there are a number of exceptions to these cases.
The regulation takes effect from January 1, so the amount will be paid out next year.
