“The results of military development were spectacularly evident in 2025, and the goal of the Hungarian Defense Forces’ years-long modernization remains clear: to build a dominant military force in Central Europe and develop a modern, NATO-compatible, high-tech military,” Defense Minister Kristóf Szalay-Bobrovniczky told MTI on Monday.
A statement issued by the Defense Ministry states that the budget for 2025 provided for the modernization of the armed forces’ equipment, the renewal of soldiers’ equipment, and the further development of capabilities.
The Hungarian Defense Forces are gradually introducing the modern Leopard 2A7HU tanks, the last of which were delivered to the Tata Armored Brigade in the first half of December.
The Lynx KF41 infantry fighting vehicles represent a major step forward for the land forces, with a significant portion of the order for over 200 vehicles being manufactured at the Zalaegerszeg factory, making the program important from an industrial and technological perspective,”
emphasized Kristóf Szalay-Bobrovniczky.
He added that the Hungarian Defense Forces took delivery of new Lynx vehicles in 2025 and expanded training with state-of-the-art simulators to help prepare drivers and operating personnel.

The air force has also undergone significant developments: in 2025, the H225M multi-purpose helicopters arrived, which the armed forces use for transport, troop movement, reconnaissance, and special operations, significantly increasing their response capability, the minister pointed out.

Overall, these acquisitions contribute to the Hungarian Defense Forces functioning as a well-equipped, flexible, and modern military force that can perform at a high level not only in the defense of Hungary but also in its NATO obligations, said the minister.
