Fact
Skopje, the capital of North Macedonia, offers a unique blend of history, culture, and natural beauty. Visitors can explore the Old Bazaar, one of the oldest and largest marketplaces in the Balkans, featuring Ottoman-era mosques and shops. The Stone Bridge, dating back to the 15th century, connects the Old Bazaar with Macedonia Square, home to the towering statue of Alexander the Great and the triumphal Macedonia Gate. History enthusiasts can also visit the Skopje Fortress (Kale), offering panoramic views of the city and remnants of Byzantine and Ottoman structures, as well as the Mother Teresa Memorial House, dedicated to the city’s most famous native. Just outside the city, Lake Matka provides opportunities for hiking, kayaking, and exploring caves. With its diverse architectural styles, from neoclassical to brutalist, and rich cultural tapestry, Skopje is a fascinating destination for travelers.Via airportal.hu; Featured photo: Pixabay
