Hungarian tourism has reached a historic milestone: the Michelin Guide, one of the world’s most prestigious gastronomic and hotel rating systems, has awarded Michelin Key prizes to accommodation providers in Hungary for the first time. In addition, several Hungarian restaurants have once again been awarded Michelin stars, further strengthening Hungary’s culinary and hospitality industry on the international stage.
The world’s leading restaurant and accommodation guide has awarded Hungarian hotels with Michelin Key certification for the first time. The system is equivalent to Michelin stars for hotels, and recognizes excellence in hospitality, design, service, and authentic connection to the location.
A total of 13 accommodations in Hungary have received Michelin Key certification. Eleven hotels received one key, including Hotel Petit Bois in Balatonfüred, Anantara New York Palace Budapest, Dorothea Hotel Autograph Collection, Hotel Clark Budapest, and Platán Manor in Tata.
The Michelin Guide awarded two Keys to the Four Seasons Hotel Gresham Palace and Matild Palace, Luxury Collection Hotel in Budapest.
According to Visit Hungary,
just as Michelin Stars recognize the world’s best culinary experiences, Michelin Keys highlight the most outstanding accommodations in the Guide’s hotel selection.
The international program aims to highlight hotels around the world that offer a unique experience, personal touch, and outstanding quality.
The Michelin Guide published its first hotel recommendations for Hungary in 2024, but this is the first time that Michelin Keys have been awarded to domestic accommodations.
The announcement quoted Gwendal Poullennec, international director of the Michelin Guide, who said that
Michelin Keys rewards hotels that offer a truly memorable stay, where design, service, and location combine to create unforgettable moments.
Olivér Csendes, CEO of Visit Hungary, emphasized that this recognition raises the international reputation of Hungarian tourism to a new level. The Michelin Keys awards not only confirm the excellence of the honored hotels, but also strengthen Hungary’s tourism brand.
