“The recent serious air strike on the Druzhba (Friendship) oil pipeline was an attack on Hungary’s sovereignty. Therefore, the government is banning the commander of the Ukrainian military unit responsible from entering Hungary and the Schengen area,” said Péter Szijjártó, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, on Thursday in Budapest.
The minister pointed out that Ukraine has recently launched several attacks against the Druzhba oil pipeline, which is essential for Hungary’s secure energy supply.
“Ukraine is aware that the Druzhba oil pipeline is essential for Hungary’s energy security. Ukraine knows full well that the attacks launched against the Druzhba oil pipeline primarily harm Hungary and, of course, Slovakia, rather than Russia,” he said. “The latest attack against the Druzhba oil pipeline was extremely serious. It was so serious that the repair work took so long that we almost had to use our strategic, emergency reserves,” he continued.
Péter Szijjártó stated that
the government considers this an attack on Hungary’s sovereignty, and therefore the events cannot remain without consequences.
“We have therefore decided to ban the commander of the military unit that carried out the recent extremely serious attacks on the Druzhba oil pipeline from Hungary and from the entire Schengen area,” he announced.
This Ukrainian citizen will not be allowed to enter Hungary or the Schengen area in the coming years,”
he added.
The minister emphasized that the government will continue to protect national interests, energy security, and Hungary’s sovereignty in the future. “Anyone who attacks our energy security and sovereignty must expect consequences. This is also the case now,” he warned.
