Three buses caught fire at three different locations in Budapest in two days, prompting authorities to launch an investigation into the causes of the incidents.
On Wednesday, a bus caught fire on József Attila Street in District V. The fire spread from the vehicle to the facade of the building next to it. The capital’s professional firefighters extinguished the flames with two water jets.
On Thursday morning, another fire broke out: a bus caught fire at the intersection of Érdi Road and Süveg Street in District XII. Firefighters also extinguished the fire with two water jets and then carried out follow-up safety checks.
Later that same day, the engine compartment of a replacement bus caught fire at a bus stop on Alkotás Street in District XII. There were no passengers on the bus at the time, and the driver escaped unharmed. Units arriving at the scene quickly extinguished the fire.
Due to the three bus fires that occurred within a short period of time, the authorities launched a comprehensive investigation to determine the exact cause of the malfunctions and prevent similar incidents in the future.
